ODE to the COLDEST NIGHT of the YEAR

Wrapped
in
you

I wish

to

sleep.

(from the forthcoming volume of imaginary poems, “EPIGRAMMAR Vol. 2: Poems and Misdemeanors from the Land They Call the Midwest” ~ mediawerks of westvirginia ~ dec. 2018)

Guest Poem of the Day: ARDUOUSLY COMPOSING
(Not the real title — this title-less piece was posted a few days ago at the invaluable Daily Zen website. It is by one of the masters of the Rinzai Zen school of Buddhism)

The sun shines warmly,
The spring snow clears;
The jaws of the plum
And the face of the willow
Vie with their fragrant freshness.
The occasion for poetry
And spiritual divertissement
Holds boundless meaning.
Permitted only to the person
Who wanders in the fields
And arduously composes poetry!

ECONOMICS

I value more
than your profundity,
the treasure of
your courtesy

Guest Poem of the Day:
Excerpt from “Of My Poems” by Thomas MacDonagh

There is no moral to my song,
I praise no right, I blame no wrong;
I tell of things that I have seen,
I show the man that I have been
As simply as a poet can
Who knows himself poet and man.

MUSICIAN’S EPIPHANY

I must go soon
and face the music…
Oh, wait—

I am the music.

> from “Epigrammar”

…..

JUST BECAUSE

Just because
we can
doesn’t mean

we

should.

…..

THE GODS, No. 1

You say the Gods
are laughing.
You say they
shat on thee…

They really didn’t
mean it.
They really meant
to pee.
